The Robot Song (for Micah’s Birthday)

In honor of my son’s fourth birthday, we recorded this little song for his party… enjoy… The Robot Song!

That’s my girl!!

Happy Birthday, Heidi!

Heidi really enjoyed her 1st birthday party today with family back in Arkansas… Can you tell?

My baby girl is now one year old…

So… My sweet little girl, Heidi Corene Carpenter, turned one year old today (family party tomorrow) and I’m amazed both at how quickly the time has gone and how much I have missed already because I have been tied up with work/projects. Crazy fast. And I am NOT taking my time with my kiddos for granted… If I have been reminded of nothing else over the past month, it is that life can be fleeting for each of us… I want to be sure that I am the best daddy I can possibly be.

What He Sees in Me

So, here is a song that I wrote for Father’s Day (video and lyrics following).  The backstory is that Micah and I were busy occupying ourselves in Target recently while Kimberly was doing baby registry stuff (we’ve only got about 7 MORE WEEKS… YIKES!) and after a good amount of time in the toy section, we made our way over to the men’s clothing.  I love hats.  Love.  Them.  So when Micah spotted a whole section of hats, he wanted to go “see” them.  I let him try on several hats, but when he put on this fedora it was just perfect and he LOVED it.  Of course, Kimberly decided that he just had to have it, but that I needed to get one as well.  Micah thought this was the coolest thing ever!

On the way home, I was contemplating how my little boy still thinks I am pretty awesome… even after I have to discipline him… or when I don’t have time to play with him.  He tends to think that it’s going to be better one day soon.  It hit me on that drive home that God views me in much the same way… quite often I stumble and fall, but His view of me is tempered with knowing the end result and the love He shows me is there in spite of my shortcomings.  He sees the man I want to be… and not the man that I currently am.  And.  That.  Is.  Amazing!

What He Sees in Me

Words and Music by Jonathan Snow Carpenter

I walk across his messy floor
Toys strewn from the night before
From playing solo ‘cause I’m still too busy
Every day I’m so amazed
That he still knows I’ll come and play
Once tomorrow comes around
Even though I’ve let him down

‘Cause he still wants to wear my shoes
Follow each and every move
And try to mimic how I daily live my life
And even though I have to scold
It seems his solitary goal
Is to make his daddy smile
That’s what keeps my heart alive

What he sees in me is a man complete
And what he sees in me matters more than anything
Because he takes the time to look through my eyes
What he sees in me is the man I want to be

He walks across my messy soul
My fears and failures in control
Of everything I’ve never wanted in my life
He sees potential in my mess
Imagines me now at my best
Stripped of all my selfish pride
That’s when He and I collide

What He sees in me is a man complete
And what He sees in me matters more than anything
Because He takes the time to look through my eyes
What He sees in me is the man I want to be

What He sees in me is a man complete
And what He sees in me matters more than anything
Because He takes the time to look through my eyes
What He sees in me is the man I want to be
What He sees in me is the man I can be
